"ICE DOVE" - A Plea for Peace
On March 2nd, 2003, 102 people gathered on the icy surface of Lake Superior, near Washburn, Wisconsin, to make a positive statement and physical plea for Peace, as opposed to war with Iraq. Temperatures were grueling, with the wind-chill dipping well below -20 degrees F. Participants ranged in age from 5-yrs-old to 85-yrs-old, with dogs joining in as well. During the series of fly-bys, from which this photo was taken, 2 pro-war counter-protesters, on snowmobiles, threatened and circled the activists at high speeds, waving American flags and shouting. The activists remained silent and prostrate for over 15 minutes, as the plane made its passes and the snowmobilers continued to circle and shout. One of the snowmobilers has been artfully dodged from this photo.
